HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/08/1986 FC mintuesI II MINUTES OF THE MOUNT PROSPECT SAFETY COMMISSION September 8, 1986 CALL TO ORDER The regular Meeting of the Mount Prospect Safety Commission was called to order at 7:30 P.M. ROLL CALL Present upon Roll Call: Absent: Lee Beening, Chairman Andrew Mitchell, Vice Chairman Tom May, Secretary Tom Daley, Police Dept. Del Ulrick, Fire Dept. Drew Johanson, Engineering Arthur Coy, Commissioner Also in attendance were: 7 persons in the audience III APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Mitchell, seconded by Tom Daley moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of the Safety Commission held May 5, 1986. Motion as passed unanimously. IV NEW BUSINESS A. A request from Mr. Donald Harmon, 16 N. William St. to restrict parking on Henry and William Sts, adjacent to his home was reviewed. Mr. Harmon stated since 3 new tenants have moved into Busse School 4 years ago, on street parking has become a problem to area residents. His concerns include the inability to enter and exit his driveway at certain times of the day and the potential hazard of the lack of access for emergency vehicles. Mr. Harmon was reminded that this issue has already been discussed at Board level with negative results. The majority of the area residents were opposed to the proposed off street parking lot needed to accommodate these cars. Chairman Been.ing suggested Mr. Harmon contact his neighbors regarding the proposed parking restrictions before any recommendation can be made. No action taken at this time. B. A request from Mr. Charles Boza, 217 N. Russel St. and Mr. Bob Akers, 418 N. Russel St., for Stop Signs at the intersection of Russel and Isabella was reviewed. These requests were received after a fataL accident occurred there earlier this year. Mr. Boza stated his concerns are for the 16 children that live on his Safety Comission Meeting September 8, 1986 block. Mr. Akers stated he was involved in an accident at that intersection in May of last year. The results of a recent traffic study were discussed. 1. Accident Experience - 4 over the past 3 years. 2. Traffic Conditions - Traffic volumes are extremely light with an even distribu- tion on both streets. 3. Physical Characteristics - The speed limits on both streets are posted - 25 M.P.H. and there are no sight obstructions. After further discussion Commissioner Mitchell, seconded by Commissioner May moved to recommend the installation of Yield Sign for north and southbound Russel at Isabella St. Motion was passed unanimously V. OTHER BUSINESS Mrs. Gloria Millar, 515 Prospect Manor, addressed the Commission Members regarding the recently imposed turning restriction at the intersection of Rand Road and Prospect Manor. Mrs. Millar stated the restrictions are very inconvenient for her and others in her subdivi- sion to go to work, shopping and visiting. The follow- ing residents expressed their opinion on the restric- tions. Shirley Melissa, 606 Fairview Ave. James L. Meilinger, 607 Fairview Ave. The Commission Members informed the residents that the approval of the turning restrictions was by the Village Board on a 4 month trail basis and suggested if they are opposed to the restrictions to bring it before the Village Board or Coffee with Council.
