Discussion will continue regarding proposed changes to the
Building and Fire Prevention Codes.
Staff will be able to provide detailed responses to questions
raised at the first workshop.
Due to the concerns expressed over the potential cost impact
of some of the proposed changes, i.e. tighter requirements for
building sprinkler systems, Mr. Thomas O'Connell, Midwest
Regional Representative for the National Fire Sprinkler
Association, will be on hand to 1) explain sprinkler systems
generally, 2) discuss cost impact, and 3) highlight potential
relief from other Code requirements afforded through the
installation of sprinklers.
The attached memorandum from Inspection Services Director
Chuck Bencic provides an analysis of the impact that proposed
fee adjustments will have on a typical residential
construction project. Also provided is a comparison of
typical fees charged by other communities.
Also attached is a memorandum from Deputy Chief Jackson that
highlights recent construction projects in the Village as it
relates to efforts to increase the presence of sprinkler
systems in all types of structures located within our
corporate limits as well as several informational ar%icles on
the street.
Appropriate staff will be available to answer questions.
