HomeMy WebLinkAboutFrench Cooking Demo 2015 - Retro Bistro SISTER CITIES EVENT FORM -FINAL Name of Event: French Cooking Demo/Luncheon/”Impressions of Sèvres”at Retro BistroRestaurant Event Description: Chris Barth ofRetro Bistro hosted a French Cooking Demo/Luncheonat hisrestaurant on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015from 1-3:30 p.m.Members of the Sister Cities Delegation who travelled to France shared stories of their trip and impressions of our Sister City,Sèvres. The afternoon began with guests arriving,choosing their seats and chatting. One glass of champagne was offered to each guest andbread, tapenade and a salad were served. Chef Chris Barth gave us the order of events for the day and introduced Mayor Juracek, who spoke about Sister Cities and our recent trip to Sèvres. Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch and Chris demonstrated (and supplied recipes for) a Baked Apple Tart and the Rock Shrimp Wonton Ravioli that was served as part of themeal.Between courses, members of the Commission who had traveled to France shared their stories and impressions of our Sister City. Chris evenlet the group wander into the kitchen for one step of the demo (flaming and cooking the apples for the tart). Coffee was served with the tart (a la mode) and additional drinks were available for purchase. Ticket stubs were drawn for a chance to choose one of several souvenirs that had been purchased in France. Even though the number of attendees was lower this year,the mood was lively, the food was excellent and plentiful and Chris was a very entertaining host. All comments seemed to be very positive and it turned out to be a very enjoyable afternoon. Tickets were sold in advance by Judy McGinnis and atStay Fit Fitness (Diana and Rafi Sahakian) for $40/person. The advertisement for the event read as follows: Join Retro Bistro Chef Chris Barth and the Mount Prospect Sister Cities Commission for a cooking demo, luncheon and “Impressions of Sèvres.” Ticket price* will include: 1) Cooking demonstration of a Baked Apple Tart by Chef Chris Barth 2) Luncheon and gratuity, including one glass of champagne, small bistro green salad, ravioli appetizer, bread, tapenade, and apple tart with coffee 3) A Program called “Impressions of Sèvres” (delegates traveling to Sèvres, France in September will talk about their visit and impressions of our Sister City). *Additional drinks will be available for purchase. GolfRoad, Mount Prospect IL60056 NTAC:4UC-11 SISTER CITIES EVENT FORM -FINAL Contact: Chris Barth Event Layout: Retro Bistro took care of all set up/cleanupand preparation requiredfor the day of the event.There were 5 tables with 5seats and one table with 6 seats set up across the front of the restaurantfacing in.Chris was standing behind a table with the ingredients in the middle of the restaurant facing out. All service, food,drinkand gratuity wereprovided by Retro Bistro and included in the cost of the ticket. List of Supplies Needed: No specific supplies were needed other than tickets for the event. Budget Breakdown: Sale of Tickets (26tickets at $40.00 ea.) $1,040.00 Disbursements:Retro Bistro $35 x 26 people ($910.00) Facebook ad ($ 30.00) French souvenirs for drawing (donated) $ 0.00 Estimated Profit**: $100.00 ** Refer to Treasurer’s Report for Final Figures Actual costs: There was no cost for the tickets since we had them leftoverfrom previous events. Dollar amount generated from event :$100.00 (we made $5.00 from each ticket sold less cost of Facebook ad $30.00) Event Wrap Up...Was it Worth It? Would youdo it again? The comments received about the event were very positive. Having a full lunch this year seemed to be very well received and the audience enjoyed hearing about Sèvres and Sister Cities.We kept our profit from each ticket to a minimum this year to give the attendees more value for the ticket price.
