The Sister Cities Commission is committed to maintaining a solid and mutually rewarding relationship with
Sevres France.
The commission further promotes this French culture through programs and events for the entire community.
These events are:
• French Trivia Night
• French theme pot luck dinner. At this year's event, the Prospect High School French language class
visited Sevres France and spoke to the attendees about their experiences.
• Family French Festival
• Cooking demo at Retro Bistro Restaurant
• Wine Tastings-There will be one next Thursday, November 12, 6:OOpm, Wildbird Shack on NWHwy
Events between Sevres and Mount Prospect are:
• Book exchange between our two libraries
• Student exchange between the Prospect High School French class and high school students from
Sevres.
This year seven representatives of the Mount Prospect Commission, including Mayor Juracek, visited Sevres
for three very full days and evenings. We met with their new Mayor and his Deputy Mayors and formed what
we believe to be a solid relationship between the two governing bodies. We visited their industries, schools at
all levels, the library, and learned more about each other's culture. One key point they wanted us to know was
how much the French love Americans and how we have always been brothers all the way back to our
Revolutionary War. They presented a movie about D-day that was directed by a resident of Sevres, it was
incredible. The Mayor is hoping to have this movie come to Mount Prospect. We also visited the Lafayette
Memorial honoring our airman who fought for the French in World War I. Today, 28 of those men are still
entombed at this site. For myself as an Air Force veteran during the Viet Nam War, I found this very moving.
For this Board and any citizens listening, this was an official visit and was not a social one. All expenses were
paid from our own pockets. No Village tax dollars were used.
Sevres officials are scheduled to visit Mount Prospect in 2017 during our centennial.
Financially we are doing well. We have almost $16,500 in our reserve. We raise this money through our
events and use it to cover commission expenses and to cover any expenses we will incur during the French
delegation's visit. Again, this is so no tax dollars are spent.
As a final note, we are also currently in search of a German Sister City.
