There were not enough Commission members present at the June 16, meeting to have a quorum. The following is a summary of the informal discussion that occurred on the 16th. The Solid Waste Coordinator distributed copies of the final draft of the residential solid waste brochure that was given to ARC Disposal for printing. ARC is to submit a sample of the brochure h7om the printer for final approval by Public Works. At that time the correct address for the Jewel in Arlington Heights will be inserted. There was a question regarding the price for aluminum being paid to the Village by ARC Disposal. The Coordinator explained that when ARC went to a commingled payment system the Village no longer received a separate dollar amount for each commodity; the Village receives a per ton rate for all commodities. However, according to the terms of the existing contract the Village was able to have ARC agree to a 75% (Village), 25% (ARC) split to help offset any loss in the revenue the Village would incur. The Coordinator also informed the Commission of ARC's letter regarding the collection of scrap metal. Although ARC is unable to provide collection of scrap metal at this time, it is their intent to work with the Commission and the Coordinator in evaluating markets and an effective collection method. The remainder of the meeting focused on the 4th of July float. It was agreed the float should highlight the expanded recycling program and the recyclables currently collected. The float will be constructed by Public Works staff. The Commission also requested flyers be available for distribution during the parade. Vice Chair Luteri stated he had inspected the SWANCC transfer station earlier in the week and the facility was clean. Chairman Westlake stated the Army Corps of Engineers should make its ruling on the balefill project by mid-July: The Commission agreed there were no pertinent items for discussion in July so the meeting was canceled. The next Commission meeting will be held Thursday, August 18,730 PM in the Public Works Facility. There being no further discussion the meeting closed at 9:00 PM.
