HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/16/1995 SWC MinutesMOUNT PROSPECT SOLID WASTE COMMISSION MEETING OF MARCH 16, 1995 PRESENT: Dick Bachhuber, Bill Donovan, Holly Johnson, George Luteri, Rod Mobus, Harold Rentschler, Mary Rosen, Ken Westlake and Mary Winkler. Lisa Angell - Solid Waste Coordinator CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Westlake called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM. Commissioner Mary Rosen was introduced and welcomed to the Solid Waste Commission; Commissioner Rosen was appointed following the resignation of Commissioner Herbert. Commissioner Rosen shared information on her activities in the environmental field including her professional and personal commitments in this area. CITIZEN FORUM: No residents were in attendance to address the Commission. SOLID WASTE PROGRAMS/DATA: The Solid Waste Coordinator reported there were no major changes in solid waste programs. However, she did make the Commission aware that the Village was continuing to address solid waste concerns that seem to be on-going at a few multifamily properties. The Village will be implementing a waste -generated fee structure for multifamily properties; those properties that exceed their basic service level will be responsible for the full cost of additional refuse containers and will be billed for excess waste around containers if the containers are not full; i.e., no overflow. The Village has education material for multifamily properties in both English and Spanish to assist property owners educate tenants on the proper disposal of household waste. In response to questions regarding current market rates she stated the Village is currently discussing this issue with ARC Disposal Company. (Commissioner Rosen distributed an article on market rates in the paper fiber industry. COMMERCIAL RECYCLING: The Coordinator gave a report on her meeting with the Chamber of Commerce's Governmental Affairs Committee. The Chamber would like the Commission to draft a plan that could be submitted to the Chamber's Board. It was suggested that the Commission should gain more insight into the needs of the business community before submitting a plan. Commissioners Johnson and Winkler volunteered to survey businesses but agreed to wait until the Chamber was made aware of the Commission's wish to conduct a survey. HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION REPORT DAY: The Coordinator requested that the Commissioners planning to volunteer at the April 22, event let her know. SWANCC: Vice Chairman Luteri stated there was nothing to report on the Citizens Advisory Committee. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 20, at 7:30 PM in the Public Works Facility.
