RESOLUTION NO. 12-15
A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF
A.JOHN KORN
TO THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT
WHEREAS,A. JOHN KORNhas beena resident of the Village of Mount
Prospect for the past47years, moving herein1968with hiswifeLindaand
family;and
WHEREAS,A. JOHN KORNhas been an active, caring and giving friend,
neighbor,civic leader, father and volunteerthroughout hismany years in the
Village; and
WHEREAS,a respected community leader,A. JOHN KORNis a manof many
“hats”:business owner –Cumberland Barber Shop;churchtrustee, president and
choir member –First Methodist of Des Plaines;former volunteerleader and coach
in youth organizations including Boy Scouts of America, baseball and football
leagues;and
WHEREAS,forever passionate about service to othersA. JOHN KORNhas
supporteda number of community-based organizations including the Mount
ProspectHistorical Society and the Mount Prospect Lions Club-often sporting
his infamous “jester” hat to prompt a smile and generate support;and
WHEREAS, A. JOHN KORNhas been an active member of the Mount Prospect
Lions Club for ten (10) years; his endless hours of service are credited for the

highly successful Lions Club 4of July Festival, Mount Prospect Farmers’ Market
and other countless fundraising activities that reach well beyond the boundaries of
Mount Prospect; and
WHEREAS, A. JOHN KORNhas literally given his“blood,” sweat and tears for
the sole purpose of helping those in desperate need; donating over 208 units (26
gallons) of his precious bloodthrough the Mount Prospect blood program;and
WHEREAS, as a ten (10) year member of the Village of Mount Prospect Sister
Cities Commission (2005-2015)A.JOHN KORNcontributed to the vibrant
relationship with Sèvres, France; and
WHEREAS,A. JOHN KORNwas appointed to the Mount Prospect Finance
Commission in 1996, serving as Chair until May of 2005; hisunwavering fiscally
conservative approach to fundinglocal government operations has sustained the
Village of Mount Prospect as an affordable and livable community;and
WHEREAS,in May of 2005 A. JOHN KORNwas appointed to the Village of
Mount Prospect Village Board to complete the term of office of new-elected Mayor
Irvana K. Wilks;and
WHEREAS,in2007,A. JOHN KORNran a successful campaign for the office of
Village Trustee and was resoundingly re-elected in2011; and
WHEREAS,A. JOHN KORN, has always exhibitedthe highest degree of fairness
and compassion in all of his deliberations regarding Village matters thereby
providing a high degree of leadership and thoughtful direction to his fellow Board
members; and
WHEREAS,A. JOHN KORNhas always made serving the best interests of the
entire community one of his basic tenets.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY,
ILLINOIS:
SECTION ONE:That the Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect
along with the community do hereby acknowledge and recognizeA. JOHN KORN
for hisyears of service to the community and wish himand Linda a long and
fulfilling future.
SECTION TWO:That an official copy of this Resolution be suitably prepared and
presented to A. JOHN KORN,as a perpetual memento.
SECTION THREE:That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
