Emerson St., Mount Prospect, IL 60056 I. Call to Order by Chairman Skip Farley at 5:48p.m. II. Roll Call: Skip Farley, George Busse, Paula Randant, Georgia Mitchell, and Mayor Arlene A. Juracek were in attendance. John Eilering was absent. , III. Approval of the Minutes: Minutes of March 9,2015 were approved on a motion by Paula Randant and a second by George Busse with the following corrections. First, the spelling of the city of Hamburg is to be corrected and, second, the organizational chart is to be corrected to reflect that the Subcommittee Chairs are member of the Commission Executive Committee. IV. Citizens to be Heard: None V. Old Business: A. The Subcommittee discussed the merits of the twinning with the cities of Kulmbach, Luneburg, Stade, Norderstedt, and Ahrensburg. Georgia Mitchell reported that there are Bosch facilities in the Hamburg and Kulmbach areas. All five of the cities are near one of these facilities but none have a facility within their city limits. After extended discussion, Kulmbach and Ahrensburg were removed from consideration. Kulmbach was eliminated from consideration because of its location in Bavaria, which culturally is significantly different from the northern German homes of Mount Prospect’s early settlers. Ahrensburg was also eliminated from consideration due to its small size and poor community match with Mount Prospect. The Subcommittee agreed to continue to pursue twinning efforts with the remaining three cities in the following priority order: 1) Luneburg, 2) Stade, and 3) Norderstedt. Luneburg was the preferred twin due to its similar size, location between Heide and Hannover (the area from which the original German settlers of Mount Prospect immigrated), and its unique historical characteristics. B. Paula Randant will seek the advice of Sister City International to determine the proper process for reaching out to the twinning candidate cities. VI. New Business: There was agreement on the proposed Sister City Commission organizational structure with grammatical corrections. It was recommended by George Busse and agreed upon by the Subcommittee to modify the organization diagram to reflect that the German and French Subcommittee Chairs are also members of the Commission Executive Committee. VII. Other Business There was a short discussion about the optimal contents of the twinning package that would be sent to a candidate. It was agreed, however, that before a “marketing” package was sent, Mayor Juracek should send a letter of invitation to ensure that there was reasonable interest on the candidate’s part for a twinning arrangement. The Subcommittee will wait to hear from Paula Randant about her discussion on procedures from Sister City International. VIII. Next Meeting will be held Monday, May 4, 2015 at 5:45 p.m. at the Mount Prospect Public Library. IX. Meeting adjourned by Chairman Farley at 6:28 p.m. Respectfully submitted, George Busse Acting Secretary
