Elmhurst Michael Matuszak, Golfview – Mr. Matuszak commented on the hours for Halloween trick-or-treating. He was wondering if the hours could be changed to permit an earlier start time or to move the day of trick-or-treating to the Sunday before Halloween. Safety concerns were noted for moving the time to an earlier start. Louis Goodman, School – Mr. Goodman shared comments relayed to him regarding the perception of Mount Prospect. His response to hearing the negative comments was to inform the individual of the positive things being done by the Village. General discussion followed. Jerry Boldt, School – Mr. Boldt wanted to thank the Village for intervening into the snow removal situation with Christian Life Church. Sidewalks are clear for pedestrian traffic. Walter and Pat Szymczak, Eastwood – Ms. Szymczak requested an update on the former retail center for Starbucks Coffee. Staff shared that there is not currently any activity on the site. General discussion followed. Mal Holec, Quince Lane – Mr. Holec asked about the recent refuse collection fee increase that was effective January 1, 2014. Staff informed Mr. Holec that the increase was part of a larger capital improvement plan and a desire to move the refuse collection program into a strictly fee based program. Currently, the refuse program is subsidized with a property tax. Mr. Holec thought that more should have been done to notify residents of the fee increase. Staff responded to related questions and general discussion followed. Jim Chylik, Locust – Mr. Chylik wanted to thank Public Works on their excellent snow removal efforts resulting from the recent storms. Carol Tortorello, Elmhurst – Ms. Tortorello wanted to report on a strong response to the January blood drive in spite of the cold weather. A total of 31 donors gave blood on January 8. Tori Markovits, Briarwood – Ms. Markovits did not have anything for the group and was only in attendance to observe. She wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Jan Kent, Briarwood – Ms. Kent requested an update on the annexation of Lynn Court. She also wanted to report debris coming onto the neighboring properties due to the ongoing tollway construction. Trustee Zadel provided Ms. Kent contact information of the person to call at the Illinois Toll Highway Authority. Staff would also notify the Village Public Works Department. General discussion followed. Steve and Barb Van Arsdale, Can Dota – The Van Arsdale’ s wanted to thank Public Works on their excellent snow removal efforts resulting from the recent storms. Steve Clark, Russel – Mr. Clark is the owner of the mattress business currently located in Mount Prospect Plaza. He wanted to share some positive comments on the new mattress business planned for the corner of Mount Prospect Road and Golf. Mr. Clark shared that competition is good and that the opening of a second mattress store in near proximity to his own will draw more customers to his location as well. Board members thanked Mr. Clark for his comments and wished him good luck into the future. Colleen Saccotelli, Wille – Ms. Saccotelli requested economic development information on Central Plaza. Staff updated Ms. Saccotelli on the search for the rightful owner of the property. Also shared were the demolition and environmental engineering work to be done over the next several months. General discussion followed. Richard and Chris Rogers, Laurel – Mr. and Ms. Rogers did not have anything for the group and was only in attendance to observe. John Dunn, Owen – Mr. Dunn requested an update on the plans to change the main entrance to Mount Prospect Plaza. Staff shared that the Village received a grant to perform an engineering study of the Rand Road corridor, including the plaza entrance. Mr. Dunn also shared his thoughts on the practice of keeping the headlights on during all hours of operation for police squad cars. He felt this was a safety issue. Staff would relay his comments to the Police Department and general discussion followed. Thomas Tezky, School – Mr. Tezky shared his practice of backing into his driveway as a safety measure. Traffic along his home is active and being able to drive forward rather than backing out reduces the chance for an accident. General comments followed. Tom Manion, Edward - Mr. Manion did not have anything to bring to the group and was only in attendance to observe. Mark Spanier, I-Oka – Mr. Spanier requested information on the plans to redevelop the office building property on the northwest corner of Golf and 83. Mr. Spanier was directed to contact Community Development Director Bill Cooney to get information on redevelopment of the site and the planning and zoning process. Larry Quinnett, Vassar – Mr. Quinnett requested the Village to consider increasing its economic development efforts as part of its long-range plan. Board members shared with Mr. Quinnett activity that is currently taking place throughout the Village. General discussion followed. Dave Schein, Na Wa Ta – Mr. Schein provided a public service announcement on the methods that can be taken to prevent water pipes from freezing. One method would be to allow certain faucets to maintain a slow drip during periods of extreme cold. This is especially important for pipes furthest from the source of water and along outside walls. Board members thanked Mr. Schein for his comments. Michael Tamillo, Elmhurst – Mr. Tamillo requested information on the settlement with Ye Olde Town Inn. Village Board members noted a suppression order on the settlement and could only comment that it took place and copies of the settlement agreement are available on the Village website and from the Village Clerk. Mayor Juracek asked if there was any further business for the good of the Village. Hearing none the meeting was adjourned at 10:45 a.m. Respectfully Submitted, David O.
