VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT
COFFEE WITH COUNCIL
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2014
9:00 AM
Community Room, Village Hall
Meeting convened at 9:00 AM. Those present: Mayor Juracek, Trustee Steven Polit, Trustee
John Matuszak, Trustee Richard Rogers, Trustee Paul Hoefert, Village Manager Mike Janonis
and Fire Chief John Malcolm.

John Ellenberger
discussed his ride along with the police department last Wednesday, and was
very complimentary of the police officers he was with that evening.
Teri Markovitz
expressed concerns about the alleged gang shooting last Wednesday evening.

Mr. Janonis informed those present that there are gangs in Mount Prospectand our police
department does a great job. Mr. Elenberger also commented on what a great job our police
department did that evening, because he rode along with the officer that responded to the
shooting.

Walter and Pat Szymczak
commented on how nice the Oktoberfest event was this year.
Louis Goodman
complimented the Trustees and Mayor for trying to reduce the tax levy.
Jerry Boldt
discussed the Finance Commission recommendation to keep the tax levy low and
also commended the Board. Mr. Boldt brought up the concern of Trick or Treat hours and asked
if the hours could be changed from 3 PM to 8 PM to 3 PM to 7 PM. Staff said they would
consider.
Mal Holec
had concerns with bicyclists at night, and referenced the requirement to have lights
on bicycles. The Mayor discussed the Village bike plan, and asked information could be posted
on our website and social media to help spread the word about bicycle safety.
Tom Tezky
reported he attended a law enforcement seminar in Des Plaines.
Chris Rogers
had nothing to report.
Teri Archam
thanked the Village for following up on the issues with a neighbor doing work in
Briarwood, and had concerns about work that was still taking place in the neighborhood. Staff
will follow up on these issues.
Jim Chylik
spoke about how the media and politicians use numbers and percentages to scare
people. You have to look at the numbers to see what the actual increase is, not only the
percentage.
Carol Tortorello
had nothing to report.
Lou Bowers
asked a question about electric aggregation and how it impacts Mount Prospect.
The Mayor explained the process and provided those in attendance with a great explanation of
the electric aggregation process. More information is on the Village website.
Mr. Iversen
asked if the Village had a list of contractors that do home remodeling. Staff
informed him we do not, but suggested he contact the Mount Prospect Chamber or check on
Angie’s list on the web.
Barbie and Steve Van Arsdale
provided a little background on crime stoppers for those in
attendance.
Barb and Bob Gonzo
were in attendance to oppose any zoning changes to the property at Golf
and 83 on the northwest corner.
Mike Cuddy
read a prepared statement opposing any zoning change to the property at Golf and
83. He made it clear they aren’t opposed to development, just no open to allowing a zoning
change at this location. Mr. Cuddy also expressed concern about his street being ripped up again
for sewer work, since the road was just repaired last year. The Mayor asked if staff could follow
up with Mr. Cuddy on this.

Joseph Lakner
was in attendance to oppose any zoning changes to the property at Golf and 83
on the northwest corner.
Ken Koeppen
had questions about how communities get their water. Mr. Janonis provided
background and a general discussion took place on this issue. Mr. Koeppen also raised concern
about the sign in front of the church at Linneman and Huntington Commons road being too
bright at night. A general discussion took place on the Village code regarding signage, and Mr.
Janonis advised that staff will follow up on this issue.
Nancy Tobin
had a question about fire alarms in her apartment, and what is required by code.
Chief Malcolm provided information, and advised her that someone from Fire Prevention will
follow up with her on Monday.
David Schein
had a question on the status of Levy 37. Staff advised it is being worked on and
they anticipate completion by the end of November. Mr. Schein also brought up that many
critters are being displaced at the golf course due to the construction.
Those in attendance sang Happy Birthday to Trustee Polit.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:40 AM.
